We had a beautiful Labor day weekend here in Upstate New York... this was taken on the Erie Canal Heritage Trail between the Main St lift bridge, and the Smith St. high bridge. Quite a bit of the path through western New York is very well maintained and is perfect for walking, biking, running, etc. I remember when I was growing up in Brockport, it was very rough with many water filled potholes, larger stones, and even the occasional metal canal wall reinforcement showing through.
